Measuring 18 inches long, they are ideal for holding soiled and clean dishes. A 9-inch backsplash is built into the unit to keep water and soap contained. Since the backsplash has a tile edge design, the sink can be placed flush against a wall. This sink is made of 18-gauge, 304 stainless steel. Composed of 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel, 304 steel is highly resistant to corrosion, which is excellent for operations that have salty dishes or highly-acidic produce. Metal gauges are measured by thickness, with 18-gauge having the thinner composition between 16- and 18-gauge steels. This distinction means that the sink more susceptible to wear and tear than sinks made of other metals. The Advance Tabco FE-1-1812-18RL compartment sink is TIG welded, which means that the seams are arc welded with a tungsten electrode to generate heat and seal the area.
